Alexander Supertramp

Into the Wild

"the seas only gifts are harsh blows

and occasionally the chance to feel strong
now i don't know much about the sea, but i do know that thats the way it is here
and i also know how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong
but to feel strong
to measure yourself at least once
to find yourself at least once,
in the most ancient of human conditions
facing the blind deaf stone alone
with nothing to help you
but your hands and your own head"

JUST BRILLIANT! so beautiful, i don't think anything else describes it

and it really got me thinking

we are in a world that has long been established, society has set its rules on us - things work and are comfortable.
But sometimes have u ever wanted to be at the start?
build a house with your hands
invent
hunt and gather
survive
in a place that has not been mapped
to just start
in solitude
to test your resolve

Opening Title: There is a pleasure in the pathless woods; / There is a rapture on the lonely shore; / There is society, where none intrudes, / By the deep sea, and music in its roar; / I love not man the less, but Nature more... / - Lord Byron

  1. I find it rather fascinating the on going complaint on how society places constraints on the creativity and free expression of people. I don't believe that society places anything on anyone. I think it's more the 'people' placing these constraints on themselves or other people. Not so much as society having a set of rules and driving people to succumb to it.

    just a thought:)

  2. I agree with you there Michelle!
And with solitude, it can’t offer anyone complete happiness in the end. In the film one of his last messages is ‘Happiness only real when shared’/ and you’re right socializing like most things developed as a survival mechanism, and it sets us apart from other creatures. Like the ‘theory of mind’ which drives our empathy and even our ability to deceive through interpreting another’s intentions and actions
We seek the comfort and this makes us happy? It’s just easy to blame society as a force that holds us in a system. But you’re right it’s us who ultimately make that choice – and that choice is not constraining. It’s safe, gives us purpose and happiness.
Even with nature, I don’t think I can live completely in it because I have a insatiable appreciation for the environments and spaces we create – both can offer an experience of beauty
Anyway!! My thoughts are far from developed on this topic. I don’t think I’ve pondered so much over a movie as Into the Wild
